Illinois Small Business Job Creation Tax Credit Expanded

In an effort to provide jobs for those workers who need it most, the state has decided to expand the Tax Break of Illinois Small Business and include any-size business hiring a participant of the 2010 "Put Illinois to Work" Program.

Senate Bill 1578 creates the Illinois Small Business Job Creation Tax Credit. The credit will be available to businesses with 50 or fewer employees that hire new, full-time Illinois employees during a 12-month period beginning July 1, 2010. To qualify for the credit, a new job must be sustained for at least one year and pay at least $10/hour or equivalent with minimum $18,200 annually. Eligible companies can apply for the credit online and will be issued a tax credit certificate beginning July 1, 2011. Applications for the credit may be submitted as soon as a new, full-time Illinois employee is hired and begins providing services.

These tax credits are also being offered to businesses of any size that hire a participant of the 2010 "Put Illinois to Work" Program. For a business to be eligible for the credit they must fill a position with a 2010 "Put Illinois to Work" worker-trainee and retain the position for 12 months. The position must pay at least $10/hour or equivalent with minimum $18,200 annually. Certificates will be issued at six months and one year.

Green Light for DATA Project

"Information Superhighway in DeKalb County" was the headline in the Daily Chronicle following a February 19 announcement by Governor Pat Quinn that $13 million in state and federal funds had been allocated to expand high-speed internet access in the area.

Herb Kuryliw of NIU and Dan Halverson of DeKalb Fiber Optic, LLC have spearheaded the grant application process over the past two years with a goal of expanding broadband service to everyone. The 130 mile fiber network will provide unlimited, cost-effective high-speed connections to about 60 institutions including schools, hospitals, libraries, and government agencies in communities throughout the entire county. Now is a great time for business and industry to link with the network in an affordable way. For further information contact: Dan Halverson, danh@dekalbfiberoptic.com.
